The new KamAZ K5 truck will become completely import-independent - all parts for it will be supplied by the Russian automotive industry.
In a year, 2,300 components were replaced by domestic ones, and the tractor is now approximately 70% Russian. Moreover, as Sergey Chemezov, head of the Rostec State Corporation, said at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, localization has been beneficial.
We replaced 2,300 components in a year, which we learned to make ourselves. And today, the K5 car, which was made with the Germans, is localized today by about 75–80 percent, and next year we will completely replace everything, 100 percent. And we not only replaced it, but even improved the characteristics of this car. For example, our engine has become more economical: if it used to be 25–27 liters, now it will be about 22 liters per 100 kilometers. Noise characteristics have become less, it has become less noisy. The service interval has also increased: it used to be 120 thousand kilometers, now it is 150 thousand kilometers.
The first relatively import-independent K5s began to be produced in February of this year. In particular, they differ from the previous Russian-German version by:
- modified cooling, neutralization, and electrical equipment systems;
- modified on-board information system;
- modified cab suspension.
The new K5 car has replaced the automatic transmission, drive axle, pneumatic system and other components. Fuel consumption has also been reduced and the soundproofing layer on the driver's cab doors has been increased. They will also have a completely domestic engine.
By the end of 2023, the production volume of K5 amounted to 5 thousand units, and in 2024 it will triple to 15 thousand units.
