The Il-114-300 will consume almost half as much fuel, fly faster, and provide passengers with more comfort compared to older turboprop aircraft. The new Russian airliner can replace outdated An-24s on regional routes and restore air travel between small cities. This was stated by Oleg Panteleev, Executive Director of the "Aviaport" agency.
According to the aviation expert, today many small cities in Russia are connected to large settlements by turboprop aircraft for about 50 passengers. A significant part of these machines was built back in Soviet times, and the age of some aircraft already exceeds 50–60 years.
Unlike the old An [the new aircraft], it will consume almost half as much fuel, fly faster, and provide much greater comfort for passengers. Therefore, the revival of flights on the network of regional, intra-regional routes is largely associated with the renewal of the Il-114 fleet.
The expert also links the possibility of restoring the network of regional routes with the fleet renewal. For small cities where there are no large airfields and passenger traffic does not allow the use of more capacious jetliners, the turboprop Il-114-300 may be a more suitable option.
An additional advantage is capacity. For comparable tasks, the Il-114-300 will be able to carry about 64 passengers compared to approximately 50 for the An-24. At the same time, modern avionics, new engines, and a higher level of comfort should make the aircraft's operation more convenient for airlines and passengers.
