New solar flares are possible in the coming days. According to experts' forecasts, on July 13 and 14, the star's activity will generally remain low, but flares of the second most powerful class, M, may occur. This was reported by the Academician E. K. Fedorov Institute of Applied Geophysics.
On July 12, several flares were already recorded on the Sun, including class M1.1. However, this does not necessarily mean that a magnetic storm will begin on Earth. It is important to understand whether the flare was accompanied by an ejection of solar plasma and whether it is directed towards Earth.
If such clouds reach our planet, they can cause disturbances in Earth's magnetic field and lead to magnetic storms.
The power of solar flares is assessed by the level of X-ray radiation. They are divided into five main classes: A, B, C, M, and X. The weakest level is A1.0. When moving to the next letter, the radiation power increases tenfold.
