New Satellite Communication Module Spotted on Su-34

Russian bomber shows signs of a serious upgrade

For the first time, a new protruding structural element behind the cockpit of the Su-34 front-line bomber was seen in the published footage of its combat operations. This was reported by the authors of the Telegram channel "Voennaya Khronika".

This refers to a distinctive fairing on the upper part of the fuselage, which had not been shown in such detail before. It may house satellite communication equipment designed to operate through low-orbit space constellations.

The appearance of new equipment may indicate the ongoing modernization of strike aircraft. If the assumptions about the fairing's purpose are correct, the aircraft will be able to receive and transmit large volumes of data faster in real time.

The channel's authors believe that the integration of high-speed satellite communication can expand the Su-34's capabilities for interaction with other elements of the reconnaissance-strike circuit. It will allow for more prompt updates on the situation, accelerate the transmission of coordinates, and reduce the time between target detection and the decision to engage it.

Official technical characteristics of the new equipment, as well as data on its developer, are currently not disclosed. However, the very fact of the appearance of a previously unnoticed antenna fairing on the aircraft has already aroused interest among specialized observers, as it may indicate the further development of the network capabilities of Russian combat aviation.
