Fourth-generation Su-35S fighters have begun to be "hidden" at airfields in lightweight protective structures. A retired military pilot and author of the Telegram channel Fighterbomber has once again raised the issue of the need to build hardened aircraft shelters (HAS) for operational-tactical and strategic aviation.
He acknowledged that rapidly erected frame shelters to protect fighters are "many times better than nothing."
But I wonder if the bosses are considering the construction of full-fledged HAS for tactical and army aviation and light shelters for long-range aircraft in the long term or not? Although this, of course, is more of a rhetorical question.
Military expert Evgeny Damantsev added that such metal hangars are capable of sheltering aircraft from drones, but a comprehensive approach is needed to counter more serious means of destruction.
To protect against Storm Shadow, R-360M "Neptune-MD" and Ruta Block 2 missiles, a powerful echeloned air defense is still needed.
The appearance of shelters indicates that the airfield infrastructure continues to be strengthened, and aircraft receive an additional level of protection at their bases.
It is known from open sources that as of 2021, the total number of Tu-160 strategic missile carriers in service with Long-Range Aviation is approximately 16 units. The number of Tu-95 strategic bombers is about 20 units.
