Auxiliary Boiler Unit Aggregates Installed on the "Leningrad" Project 22220 Nuclear Icebreaker

Two 14-ton boilers will support life support systems when reactors are shut down

At the Baltic Shipyard (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation), the installation of key components of the auxiliary boiler unit on the "Leningrad" Project 22220 universal nuclear icebreaker under construction has been completed.

Specialists have installed two boiler units, each weighing 14 tons and capable of producing up to 10 tons of saturated steam per hour at a working pressure of 0.75 MPa. The unit runs on diesel fuel and serves as a backup steam source to supply vital ship systems during periods when the main reactor units are out of service.

The steam produced by the auxiliary boiler is used in heating, ventilation, hot water supply systems, and other consumers, ensuring the comfort and safety of the crew and the functioning of ship mechanisms outside the active phase of the nuclear power plant operation.
