Centrifugal Casting and Digital Processing — TMH Modernized Diesel Parts Production

Новые технологии сокращают дефекты, расход металла и время выпуска критически важных компонентов

A key modernization has been completed at the foundry "Petrozavodskmash" (part of Transmashholding) in the areas responsible for the production of cast blanks for diesel engines. The total investment in the modernization amounted to 3.8 billion rubles, of which 2.4 billion rubles were provided by the Industrial Development Fund. The project was implemented with the support of the Government of the Republic of Karelia.

As part of the investment project "Localization of cast blanks for various diesel engines", the following were implemented:

  • Centrifugal casting technology for cast iron — three new machines have been launched for the production of cylinder liners. Each provides the production of up to two liners per hour, reduces metal consumption, and eliminates shrinkage defects.
  • Five-axis machining center in the model area — increased the accuracy and speed of machining, increasing productivity by 25% while improving the quality of parts.

Thanks to the updated equipment and technologies, the plant today is the only enterprise in Russia capable of producing cast iron castings weighing up to 140 tons, including cylinder blocks, liners, and cylinder heads — key components of diesel engines for railway and industrial equipment.

Kirill Lipa, General Director of TMH and member of the Bureau of the Russian Engineering Union, familiarized himself with the progress of the work. He noted that the localization of critical diesel components strengthens the technological independence of domestic mechanical engineering and ensures sustainable cooperation in the industry.
