Russia unveils 177S engine for fifth-generation fighters: thrust up to 14.5 tons

The unit significantly surpasses its predecessors

The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of the Rostec State Corporation) presented the latest 177S engine for 5th generation aircraft at the Dubai Airshow 2025. The new product is significantly superior to its predecessors and many foreign counterparts in terms of characteristics.

The 177S engine provides up to 14.5 tons of thrust, while the service life is three times higher compared to the previous generation.

The design solutions provide increased thrust with the same dimensions and weight as the basic AL-31F/FP installed on aircraft of the Su family. Thus, the 177S can be used to replace previous engines without any modifications.

The service life of the new power plant is 6000 hours. At the same time, if the requirements for the service life are reduced, it is possible to further increase its thrust.

Fuel consumption in all modes is reduced by 7%. This reduces operating costs, increases the aircraft's flight range, and expands the possibilities for performing complex aerobatics. The engine provides increased power consumption for powering the electronic systems of modern aircraft.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russia has developed a hybrid engine of the future based on hydrogen and methane.
