Specialists from the South Ural State University (SUSU) have created and successfully tested an innovative construction machine capable of compacting the soil under roads at great depths. This allows building roads that will not require major repairs for at least a quarter of a century, said Marat Asfandiyarov, Associate Professor of the Department of Hydraulics and Hydropneumatic Systems at SUSU.
My colleagues and I have created and successfully tested a unique technology and machine for deep soil compaction, which will radically change the condition of our roads, eliminate one of the main problems of the domestic road industry - the rapid deterioration of the quality of the road surface and frequent repairs. According to our calculations, with its use, roads will meet the requirements of 25 years without major repairs.
The scientist added that currently roads quickly fall out of standard condition (potholes, rutting, heaving) due to insufficient compaction of the soil base during their construction.
According to the developer, the new design is a cone-shaped metal body with a special planetary mechanism. Rollers and bearings inside the mechanism create additional pressure and vibration, and rotation is provided by a hydraulic motor. The excavator lowers the device onto the prepared area. The cone begins to rotate, wedging and compacting the soil in all directions to the entire depth of penetration. This method allows achieving a significant depth of compaction - up to three meters or more, which is inaccessible to standard technologies using rollers.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the length of the tunnel through the Bering Strait may be up to 112 kilometers - twice as long as the Channel Tunnel.
