Lightweight version of the "Obereg" assault body armor presented by Rostec specialists

New composite armor plate withstood 12 shots from an AR-15 rifle chambered in 5.56 mm

Specialists from the "Oktava" plant, part of "RT-Capital", have successfully modernized the "Obereg" assault body armor, achieving a Br4+ protection class. By using modern materials for the armor plates, they managed not only to maintain a high level of protection, but also to significantly reduce the weight of the product.

Tests have shown that the armor plate successfully resisted the impact of a B-32 armor-piercing bullet (7.62 mm) from a sniper rifle at a distance of 100 meters. In addition, it withstood 12 shots from an AR-15 rifle chambered in 5.56 mm. A representative of the plant emphasized that the plate was penetrated only by the fourth hit in the same place, which indicates its significant strength.

The new plate contains ceramics and a number of composite materials. It is extremely high-tech and, in our opinion, currently has one of the best ratios of mass, strength and survivability of those generally available on the arms market.

In maximum configuration, the weight of the body armor was 8.5 kg with a protection area of 70 square decimeters.

Modern combat operations demonstrate that most injuries sustained by military personnel are from shrapnel, not bullets. Therefore, the new equipment retains the anti-fragmentation protection, similar to the title version of the "Obereg.Pro" assault armor with a Br5 protection class, but significantly simplified the armor plate, with practically no deterioration in its strength characteristics, Rostec specialists reported.
