AvtoVAZ is considering expanding the range of cars assembled at the plant in St. Petersburg. Serial production of the new Lada Iskra model has now started there, but in the future the company may receive other projects.
Company President Maxim Sokolov emphasized that we are talking about development on our own technological platforms. Plans for the development of the project in St. Petersburg include other models, he said.
The final decision will depend on the situation on the market: demand for new cars in Russia continues to decline, and the plant in Tolyatti has been switching to a four-day work schedule since the end of September.
Despite temporary restrictions, the capacity of the St. Petersburg site allows for the assembly of a large number of cars. Previously, XCite crossovers were produced here, but their production has been suspended. Experts do not rule out that after the market stabilizes, Lada Azimut crossovers or a promising minivan on the Lada Vesta platform may begin to be assembled here.
