According to a survey by the financial marketplace "Vyberu.ru", more than 20% of Russians have encountered fraudulent schemes before the start of the school year. The average damage from such actions amounted to 11.4 thousand rubles.
The most common scheme is phishing emails, allegedly from the parent-teacher association. In them, scammers offer to give a gift to the teacher. 43% of respondents received such messages, and 28% encountered letters allegedly from government agencies containing phishing links.
Also, 13% of respondents reported calls from scammers posing as teachers or school principals. Slightly less common were offers from non-existent stores (8%) and letters allegedly from educational institutions asking to update documents (5%). This year, almost 10% of fraud cases are related to оформлением кредитов на имя жертвы.
Interestingly, the time it takes to recognize scammers has decreased. 62% of respondents were able to detect deception in less than 5 minutes of a phone conversation, while last year this figure was only 32%. However, in correspondence, only 17% of respondents realized that they were communicating with scammers in 5 minutes, and 68% needed more than 10 minutes.
Scammers are recognized most quickly by residents of Moscow and Novosibirsk aged 30 to 40, working in the financial sector. The least protected were citizens over 40 years old, working in education and living in the Far East. 3 thousand Russians participated in the survey.
