"Nuclear Matryoshka" is almost ready: control assembly of the reactor vessel for the fourth power unit of the Akkuyu NPP has begun

The first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP should be operational in 2026

The Volgodonsk branch of JSC "AEM-technology" "Atommash" (part of the Rosatom machine-building division) has begun the final stage of manufacturing the reactor for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey. Currently, the control assembly of the reactor vessel with internal devices (IVD) and the lid is being carried out.

“The control assembly of the “nuclear matryoshka” allows engineers to make sure that all nodes and elements of the reactor are located exactly to one thousandth of a millimeter. This work confirms the reactor's readiness to work for at least 60 years and simplifies its installation at the construction site of the nuclear power plant. Successful control assembly serves as a global quality marker.

An in-core mine weighing 73 tons is installed inside the reactor vessel. The installation of the fence (38 tons), the block of protective pipes (68 tons) and the reactor cover (90 tons) is carried out sequentially. In the process of assembly, fastening pins will also be installed, fixing the device for centering the cover.

The reactor is a vertical cylindrical vessel with an elliptical bottom, inside which the core and in-core devices are located. From above, it is hermetically sealed with a lid, on which control and protection mechanisms are installed, as well as nozzles for вывод cables of in-reactor control sensors. The first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP is planned to be commissioned in 2026.
