The Volgodonsk branch of JSC "AEM-technology" "Atommash" (part of the Rosatom machine-building division) has begun the final stage of manufacturing the reactor for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey. Currently, control assembly of the reactor vessel with internal components (ICD) and the lid is underway.
"The control assembly of the "nuclear matryoshka" allows engineers to ensure that all components and elements of the reactor are positioned accurately to within one thousandth of a millimeter. This work confirms the reactor's readiness to operate for at least 60 years and simplifies its installation at the NPP construction site. Successful control assembly serves as a global quality marker.
An internal core barrel weighing 73 tons is installed inside the reactor vessel. The installation of the baffle (38 tons), the block of protective tubes (68 tons) and the reactor lid (90 tons) is carried out sequentially. In the process of assembly, fastening keys will also be installed, fixing the device for centering the lid.
The reactor is a vertical cylindrical vessel with an elliptical bottom, inside which the core and internal devices are located. From above, it is hermetically sealed with a lid, on which control and protection mechanisms are installed, as well as nozzles for вывод cables of in-reactor control sensors. The first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026.
