С небес на землю: новый трамвайный участок соединит улицу Академика Королёва и станцию МЦД Останкино

The route under construction partially repeats the movement of the Moscow monorail, which closed in June 2025

The design of a new tram line section has begun in the capital, which will connect Akademika Koroleva Street and the Ostankino MCC station. The route will be 1.6 km long and will be equipped with five stops. Completion of work is scheduled for 2027.

The new line will provide a transfer from the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD-3) to trams heading towards VDNKh. According to estimates, this will simplify travel for more than 700 thousand residents of the city: the transfer time will be reduced to two minutes. The route will also improve access to the Ostankino television center, Soyuzmultfilm film studio, Ostankino television tower and the park of the same name.

In addition to the construction of a new section, it is planned to reconstruct the junction to the existing tram network and update the adjacent road infrastructure. It is expected that the opening of the line will reduce the load on the VDNKh metro station by approximately 5%.

It is worth noting that on June 27, 2025, the Moscow monorail, which was launched back in 2004, made its last trip in Moscow. Due to low profitability, as well as the availability of a more affordable alternative in the form of new metro stations, MCC, trams and buses, which partially repeat its route, it never became a full-fledged part of the capital's transport system. On June 28, the Moscow monorail completed its work.
