Air service on domestic routes resumed in Gelendzhik on July 18. This is the first departure from the airport in three years, according to Ivan Taranchenko, General Director of the air harbor, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Preparation for the launch took only 10 days, whereas it usually takes from one to two months. The decision to resume flights came from Rosaviatsiya in a short time, which required an accelerated organization of the schedule. At the time of opening, six routes were agreed upon, and one more was in the process of approval. The possibility of a route to Norilsk is also being considered.
A few days before the official launch, a training flight was conducted at the airport with the participation of children and employees. Registration, inspection, and baggage handling systems were checked. Employees acted as passengers, arriving with their belongings and going through the entire process from entry to boarding.
Since 2022, Gelendzhik Airport, like ten other southern airports, has been closed to aircraft for security reasons. The resumption of flights became possible after the conclusions of specialists from Rosaviatsiya and the State Air Traffic Management Corporation.
The new passenger terminal, built in 2021, has doubled the capacity. Modernization of the infrastructure is planned to be completed by the end of 2025.
