India has begun implementing a large-scale modernization program for Su-30MKI fighters called "Super-30." As part of it, the country's Air Force successfully tested the latest Astra air-to-air missile with a range of 100 km.
The ammunition was tested against targets at a test site in the state of Odisha in the east of the country. What exactly served as targets has not yet been reported.
In both cases, the Astra missiles launched from the Su-30MKI fighter hit the targets with high accuracy. All systems worked without failures during the tests, which confirmed the reliability of the weapons.
The maximum target engagement range of the missile is 100 km, Astra is equipped with Indian-made homing heads. It is planned that the missiles will become the main armament for the promising Indian LCA AF MK1A fighters.
The Su-30MKI multirole fighter in India is produced under a Russian license by the state corporation Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. It forms the basis of the republic's front-line aviation.
Earlier www1.ru reported that MiG-31 fighters used hypersonic "Kinzhal" missiles for the second time in three days.
