Omsk Research Institute of Instrument Engineering (ONIIP) presented new STW resonators in miniature SMD packages with dimensions of 3×3×1.8 mm, which can become the basis for upgrading reference oscillators of radio receiving devices. The development was announced at the conference "Wave Electronics and Infocommunication Systems" in St. Petersburg in May 2025.
STW resonators (Surface Transverse Wave) are used in radio engineering to increase sensitivity, noise immunity and energy efficiency of equipment. They are also in demand in navigation systems, wireless sensors and devices for chemical and biological analysis. The ONIIP development is distinguished by increased Q-factor (up to 11,000) and improved temperature stability in the range from -60 to +85 °C.
The new resonators are made on the basis of a piezoelectric material in a sealed package, which ensures resistance to external influences. Their introduction will not only modernize existing generators, but also expand application in frequency filtering systems. ONIIP cooperates with IRFE ONC SB RAS and OmSTU, developing technologies for quartz generators and radio-photon systems.
