The Russian BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle has many advantages over its American competitor, the M2A2 ODS Bradley, such as a powerful 100-mm gun and confident off-road performance. However, all the advantages are negated by weak armor, noted the portal "Tekhnosfera Rossiya."
The BMP-3 is lighter and works better off-road, it has a powerful 100-mm gun, but all these advantages are nullified by weak armor, on which, as a result, "barbecue grills" have to be welded, and the issue of using an active protection system (APS), which is only now beginning to be introduced on tanks, is again relevant.
According to Russian specialists who studied the captured M2A2 ODS in 2023-2024, the American vehicle is 10 tons heavier than the BMP-3, cannot cross rivers by swimming, but is equipped with more serious armor protection that can withstand shelling from large-caliber automatic weapons, and in the frontal projection - 30-mm shells.
At the same time, the Bradley is significantly larger than the BMP-3, which means that after the installation of anti-drone nets, it turns into a rather large target. Moreover, it is constrained by weaker off-road capabilities.
