Court fines Telegram 7 million rubles for failing to remove calls for illegal actions

Roskomnadzor has complaints about channels containing calls for terrorist attacks and rallies

The Tagansky Court of Moscow has imposed a fine of 7 million rubles on the Telegram messenger. The reason for this decision was that the platform refused to remove channels that contained calls for terrorist attacks on transport infrastructure facilities and participation in anti-government rallies.

Telegram Messenger Inc., as the owner of the information resource, did not remove channels that contained calls for extremist activity. The state regulator sent the Telegram administration an electronic order regarding a violation of the procedure for restricting access to information.

In October 2024, the Tagansky District Court found Telegram guilty of a similar administrative offense. An administrative fine of 4 million rubles was imposed as punishment.

Since the beginning of 2021, Roskomnadzor has systematically drawn up administrative protocols against social networks and messengers that have not complied with the requirement to remove calls for participation in unauthorized events and the dissemination of information prohibited from publication in Russia.

Earlier it became known that owners of Telegram channels and blogs will be required to pay 3% of income from advertising every quarter. This rule will apply to all communities, regardless of the number of subscribers. The penalty for violating this law can be up to 500 thousand rubles.
