The «Baikal» light aircraft project continues to develop, despite the difficulties encountered.
The Chairman of the State Council Commission on «Effective Transport System» and Head of the Republic of Buryatia, Alexey Tsydenov, expressed confidence that the problems encountered during the creation of the aircraft are quite solvable, and the project will not be frozen. The Ministry of Industry also confirmed that the project continues to be implemented, despite possible delays.
Currently, three prototypes of the LMS-901 «Baikal» light aircraft are in operation, which should replace the Soviet An-2. The first five models are expected to be delivered in 2026.
«Baikal» is a multi-purpose aircraft with nine seats. Its maximum cruising speed is 300 km/h, and its flight range is 3,000 km (with a payload of 2 tons).
Tsydenov noted that while «Baikal» is undergoing the fine-tuning stage, the An-2 fleet continues to serve routes thanks to the power plant modernization program. This allows maintaining the transport accessibility of territories until the new model is put into operation.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the LMS-901 «Baikal» aircraft project faced problems.
