Reconstruction of the first runway completed at Simferopol Airport

The runway is equipped with modern lighting equipment and a radio beacon system

The reconstruction of the first runway has been completed at Simferopol Airport. The Interregional Department of Rostekhnadzor for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol inspected the facility, following which a conclusion was issued on the compliance of the second stage of construction of the Simferopol airport complex with the project requirements. This was reported by the Crimean Department of Rostekhnadzor.

According to the conclusion issued on February 28, 2025, the facility was recognized as meeting all the necessary requirements established by Part 16 of Article 54 of the Town Planning Code of Russia. This conclusion is the official basis for putting the runway into operation.

Runway (ВПП) No. 1 at Simferopol Airport was built in 1960. However, in the early 2000s, it became unsuitable for operation due to insufficient strength and length. It began to be used as a taxiway for aircraft heading to Runway No. 2. In August 2018, work began on the construction of a new Runway No. 1.

The new runway is a concrete pavement with a 1.4-meter layer of crushed stone. Its length has increased from 2700 to 3200 meters. The runway is equipped with modern lighting equipment that meets all the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). A radio beacon system is also installed on the runway, providing accurate navigation for aircraft.

As part of the project, an emergency rescue station and treatment facilities for surface runoff were also built. A main taxiway is laid along the entire runway.

It was previously reported that after commissioning, the new runway 1 will become the main one, and the existing runway 2 will function as a backup.

The second runway, which has been in operation since 1982, has a non-standard length of 3700 meters, as it was created as a backup airfield for landing Buran reusable spacecraft.

After reconstruction, the runway will be able to significantly increase the capacity of Simferopol Airport and increase its operational reliability.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that in 2026 the construction of an airport at the Sheregesh ski resort will start.
