Almaz Design Bureau Showcases Advantages of Polymer Composite Materials for Modern Ship Construction

USC Presents Breakthrough Technologies in Shipbuilding at the Forum of Future Technologies

At the Forum of Future Technologies in Moscow, the USC "Almaz" design bureau presented its achievements in the field of polymer composite materials (PCM), which are changing the face of the shipbuilding industry. Mikhail Alyoshin, Chief Engineer of the USC "Almaz" design bureau, spoke about the advantages of using PCM and real projects.

The Forum of Future Technologies has become an excellent platform for demonstrating our achievements. We are confident that our developments will find application not only in shipbuilding, but also in other industries.
Mikhail Alyoshin

Forum participants were able to familiarize themselves with real projects, including the creation of ships with monolithic PCM hulls, as well as the development of composite superstructures for various types of ships.

Key projects presented at the forum included:

  • The world's largest serial minesweeper with a monolithic PCM hull;
  • PCM superstructures for corvettes and other warships;
  • Application of composite materials in civil shipbuilding, including Ministry of Emergency Situations boats and high-speed yachts.

Alyoshin said that the main advantages of using PCM are high strength and rigidity, low thermal conductivity, good sound insulation and anti-corrosion properties. These characteristics make it possible to reduce the weight of ships, reduce maintenance costs and increase speed and efficiency.

In addition, USC presented promising areas of combined construction, where steel, aluminum and fiberglass are used. This allows you to speed up the construction of ships and increase their payload.
