The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of IKI RAS and ISZF SB RAS reported the resumption of flare activity on the Sun. A young active region located in the southern hemisphere is emerging on the side of the Sun visible from Earth. It has nothing to do with region 4366, which in early February set an absolute record for flare activity for the XXI century.
Yesterday, by inertia, the fourth consecutive day without spots was recorded, but this is just a formality. «Winter» is over.
According to the laboratories, the new group of sunspots remains partially hidden behind the edge of the solar disk and therefore has not yet received an official number. During the previous rotation of this side of the Sun to Earth (about three weeks ago), no activity was observed in this sector. Consequently, the region formed quite recently — most likely, in the last two or three days.
The level of flare activity is already close to the threshold of the M-class, but formally no M-class flares have been recorded. Scientists suggest that the reason is the geometry of observations: part of the radiation is currently blocked by the solar disk itself.
The new region continues to develop. Specialists from IKI RAS and ISZF SB RAS continue to monitor and promise to promptly inform about further growth of activity.
