UAZ "Patriot" with New 2.0 Diesel Endured Severe Frosts: Test Details

The 136 hp engine successfully started at -30 ℃

Engineers at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant reported the successful completion of a key stage in the preparation of the new diesel line. The "Patriot" SUV, equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, underwent a program of winter calibration tests. The main goal of the engineers was to ensure stable operation of the engine control systems in extremely low temperatures.

Specialists of the enterprise reported that the power unit demonstrated a confident start even when the thermometer dropped to -30°C. Special attention during the tests was paid to checking components that are traditionally considered the most vulnerable in diesel systems when it gets cold. The turbocharger, catalytic converter, and particulate filter function normally, without failures or critical errors.

All electronic engine control was carefully adjusted to operate in a negative temperature range. This allows moving on to the next phase of testing. Now the cars will have to undergo resource tests, during which they will cover 100 thousand kilometers in real-world operation. Such measures are necessary to confirm the durability of components before mass production.

The serial installation of the new unit on the "Patriot", "Pickup" and commercial "Profi" models is scheduled for 2026. Under the hood of these cars will be a localized Sollers-550010 turbodiesel. The engine is produced at the Sollers plant in Yelabuga under license from the Chinese company JAC.

According to the data of the Vehicle Type Approval (OTTS), which the commercial version of "Profi" received back in December last year, the new engine has the following parameters:

  • Power: 136 horsepower;
  • Torque: 320 Nm.

For comparison, the current ZMZ-409 Pro gasoline engine, which is equipped with the current versions of "Profi", produces 150 horsepower. However, in terms of traction, it is inferior to the new product, generating only 235 Nm of torque. Thus, despite the lower peak power, the diesel version promises to be more powerful in a wide range of revolutions.
