Сотрудники ГАИ начали массово изымать электровелосипеды у курьеров

The checks are due to the fact that many delivery drivers do not have category "M" licenses

In Moscow, traffic police officers began mass inspections of couriers' e-bikes, seizing vehicles that do not meet the requirements. Since the beginning of the year, hundreds of seized e-bikes have accumulated in impound lots.

The reason for the raids is the lack of category "M" licenses for couriers, which are necessary to drive vehicles that develop speeds above 25 km/h. Inspections are carried out throughout the capital, but most actively in the north of the city.

The traffic police assess the power of the motors and the speed of movement of couriers. If an e-bike is recognized as a moped, and the driver does not have the appropriate rights, the vehicle is sent for examination. Mostly personal e-bikes are seized, as rented ones usually meet the requirements. To pick up the vehicle, the courier needs to pay a fine, evacuation and parking, and the examination can take up to three weeks, making the return of the bicycle economically unprofitable.

Since March, the traffic police plans to increase the number of raids, which courier services and rental services have been notified of. Experts associate the checks with new standards: at the end of 2024, a GOST was approved for e-bikes, and from May 2025 their maximum speed should not exceed 25 km/h.
