«Химические пастухи» очистят море от мазута: российские учёные создали новые реагенты

The development simplifies the process of collecting fuel oil film using special equipment

Russian scientists have developed new reagents called "chemical shepherds." They are designed to clean the surface of seawater from fuel oil. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.

Fuel oil in the form of a thin surface film with a thickness of about 0.1 mm prevents gas and heat exchange of the sea, but cannot be removed by oil-collecting equipment due to insufficient thickness. The developed "chemical shepherds" are designed to increase the thickness of a thin oil film on the water, so that it can be collected by special equipment.

The reagents are planned to be used for mechanical and sorption methods of eliminating accidental oil spills. The new substances have confirmed their effectiveness.

Scientists from three Russian universities participated in the development — Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, the Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Russian Academy of Sciences presented a biological method for cleaning the Black Sea from fuel oil.
