The Cabinet of Ministers of the Russian Federation has adopted a resolution that allows subsidies to be allocated to the state corporation Rostec for the creation of technical documentation for the development of preliminary and technical designs for a shortened version of the MC-21 aircraft. The corresponding document is posted on the official legal information portal.
The resolution allows the start of funding for the creation of a preliminary design for a shortened version of the MC-21. The amount of the subsidy is not specified. It is known that last year 1.94 billion rubles were allocated for the development of the preliminary design in the period from 2024 to 2025.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that the work will be carried out within the already allocated funds, without attracting additional expenses.
Sergey Chemezov, head of Rostec, previously said that the shortened version of the MC-21-210 will be able to accommodate from 160 to 170 passengers.
PJSC Yakovlev (part of PJSC UAC of Rostec) is responsible for the development of the entire family of domestic MC-21 aircraft.
Basic Version of the Aircraft – MC-21-310
- accommodates up to 211 passengers
- flight range – 5100 km
- takeoff weight – 85 tons
The start of serial production of the MC-21-310, according to the Comprehensive Program for the Development of the Aviation Industry of the Russian Federation, was scheduled for 2025. Today, in a conversation with journalists, the head of Rostec stated that he expects the start of serial production no earlier than 2026. Last year, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov said that the MC-21 could receive a fuselage shortened by one section. This version of the aircraft will be able to provide the declared flight range, taking into account the weight characteristics after import substitution.
