Russian cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Wagner connected the SPIN-X1-MVN X-ray spectrometer to the surface of the Zvezda module in outer space. This was reported by the press service of the state corporation.
The exit hatch of the Poisk module was opened at 18:37 Moscow time. The next task is to dismantle scientific equipment.
Next, the cosmonauts plan to place the ERA manipulator arm in a portable workplace and discard the package with the dismantled elements from the station. The expected time spent outside the station is 6 hours 43 minutes.
The spectrometer was delivered to the station in August aboard the Progress MS-28 cargo ship. The device is expected to begin operating immediately after installation and will conduct 15 sky surveys over three years.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the Russian cargo ship Progress MS-28 saved the ISS from space debris.
