Russian Railways (RZD) has announced the potential to accelerate the Sapsan train.
Currently, the train's speed is limited to 250 km/h due to the high load on the infrastructure, and it reaches this speed on five sections between Moscow and St. Petersburg, including areas such as the Mstinsky Bridge - Okulovka, Malaya Vishera - Burga, and Leontyevo - Vyshny Volochek.
However, according to representatives of Russian Railways, the company sees opportunities to increase speed. During the tests, the drivers were able to accelerate the train to 291 km/h, and the maximum design speed of the Sapsan is 300 km/h. Russian Railways also noted that the Sapsan is capable of accelerating to 322 km/h, which is comparable to future trains for high-speed railways (HSR), which will be designed with a maximum speed of 360 km/h.
