In light of the likely appearance of low-observable tactical Storm Shadow missiles on the front lines, the Russian military needs to deploy A-50U airborne early warning and control (AWACS) aircraft. This was pointed out by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
Effective repulsion of Storm Shadow strikes requires the mandatory use of A-50U AWACS aircraft.
The A-50U is an upgraded version of the A-50 produced by the Vega concern (part of the Roselectronica holding of the Rostec State Corporation) and TANTK named after G. M. Beriev (part of the United Aircraft Corporation, UAC).
The A-50U received new electronics with greater speed and performance, which made it possible to increase the capabilities of the functional software. The aircraft uses new large-resolution and large-format LCD monitors, which improves the efficiency of the radar situation display system, and improved ergonomics of the aircraft will reduce the fatigue of the tactical crew. The A-50U also received an upgraded flight and navigation system.
The aircraft is designed to detect, track, and determine the affiliation of air, sea, and large ground targets, provide information about them to command posts, guide front-line aircraft to sea and ground targets, as well as interceptors to air targets.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that an important feature of the Su-57 fighters will allow to detect Storm Shadow even at hypersonic speeds.
