«Право на забвение»: Путин разрешил гражданам требовать удаления личных данных из всех поисковиков

Data on existing criminal records cannot be erased from the Web

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law obliging search engine operators to grant users the "right to be forgotten" on the Internet. The document was published on the legal acts portal on June 22, 2024.

The new law allows users to request the removal of personal data from all search engines. This refers to false, outdated, or illegal information.

The law does not apply to the removal of data on committed crimes with an existing criminal record.

Previously, only search engines that distributed advertising and were exclusively focused on Russians could remove information. According to the new rules, the requirement will now apply to all search engine operators.

In addition, all operators will have to connect to the Roskomnadzor register of information resources within 30 days. After connecting, they are obliged to stop issuing search results with information about sites and resources banned in the Russian Federation within three days.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russia has tested a quantum technology capable of encrypting data with unhackable keys.
