Cold tests of the TUK-137T.R container were successfully conducted at power unit No. 7 of the Novovoronezh NPP (branch of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC). The container is designed for transporting spent nuclear fuel (SNF) from nuclear power plants with VVER-1200 type reactors (water-cooled power reactor). This was reported by the press service of the state corporation.
During the testing, the container was installed in a special socket of the reactor compartment. Then, specialists checked the installation of equipment that completely replicates the design of standard fuel assemblies into the channels of the cover casing, as well as the decontamination and sealing of the lid.
Evgeny Golubev, Head of the Nuclear Safety and Reliability Department of NV NPP, noted that the tests were conducted in two stages. The first was successfully implemented now, and the second is scheduled for the end of this year.
Now we have to complete the manufacture of equipment for verification work outside the reactor compartment and completely finish them.
According to Evgeny Golubev, the developers plan to establish a process for the production of containers for the nuclear industry and begin the removal of SNF from power unit No. 6 of the Novovoronezh NPP.
Earlier,www1.ru reported that the construction of a unique module for the "reactor of the future" will becompleted in 2024.
