"Russian Railways" (РЖД) have introduced measures for the safe transportation of animals after the story with the cat Twiks. A new feature has appeared in the mobile application to specify the nickname and type of pet when оформлении a ticket for long-distance trains, the company said. Russian Railways promised toimprove the system in January of this year.
A representative of Russian Railways clarified that the new option is only available for smartphones based on Android OS. Apple smartphone owners will not be able to use it, since the "РЖД пассажирам" application has been removed from the App Store. The company noted that in the future the option will appear on the Russian Railways website.
Russian Railways planned to change the rules for transporting animalsafter the incident with the cat Twiks, which occurred in January 2024. The pet got out of the carrier and wandered around the train car traveling from Yekaterinburg to St. Petersburg. The conductor mistook the animal for a stray and released it from the car at a station in Kirov. Twiks was later found dead.
