In Murmansk, the expedition that spent 20 months on the ice-resistant platform "North Pole" was solemnly welcomed on Polar Explorer's Day. The polar explorers worked in the high latitudes of the Arctic Ocean as part of the drifting expedition "North Pole-41".
The unique platform, the only one in the world, started in the autumn of 2022 near the Novosibirsk Islands, and covered more than 3,000 nautical miles, passing through the near-polar region towards the North European Basin of the Atlantic Ocean. After entering ice-free waters, the "North Pole" platform with a team of scientists and polar explorers on board returned to Murmansk.
During this time, the expedition conducted fifty types of research: from meteorological to geophysical, glaciological, seismic, and aerological.
The use of a unique ice-resistant self-propelled platform made it possible to conduct the expedition at the highest professional level and ensured maximum safety of work. Over 20 months, the expedition covered three thousand nautical miles from the Novosibirsk Islands to the Spitsbergen archipelago, and unique data on the nature of the Arctic region were obtained, which will make a huge contribution to the study of its climate. I am confident that these important works will be continued as part of the following "North Pole" expeditions.
The start of the new expedition "North Pole-42" is scheduled for September.
