In the face of tightening Western restrictions, Russian airlines have found a way to circumvent the barriers by importing six engines for Boeing aircraft from Asian countries. The decision is due to the increasing number of incidents involving failures of American power plants.
According to a Mash source, Azur Air was among the operators that successfully upgraded their equipment. It was its Boeing 757 that had to make two emergency landings in January — in Lanzhou, China, and Hanoi, Vietnam.
It is assumed that we are talking about two versions of Rolls-Royce RB211 engines, providing take-off thrust up to 18 tons per unit, or three models from the Pratt & Whitney PW2000 series with thrust characteristics from 16.5 to 19 tons.
Failures in the operation of imported engines may be due to limited access to original spare parts and maintenance, which increases the risks for operation.
