The Severodvinsk enterprise Sevmash, part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (OSK), has successfully shipped the second thrust bearing for the Project 22220 universal nuclear-powered icebreaker "Leningrad." The parts are manufactured under a contract with OSK's Baltiysky Zavod, which acts as the main customer.
Sevmash's design bureau developed the main thrust bearing project specifically for vessels of this type. In addition, the shipyard's specialists created a comprehensive testing program. The dimensions of the product are impressive: the height reaches 2.5 meters, while the total assembled weight is about 25 tonnes. According to the enterprise's estimates, these are among the largest and most technically complex products in Sevmash's entire history.
A set of three bearings is required to equip one icebreaker. The first unit was delivered to St. Petersburg at the end of 2025. The third bearing has already passed all stages of bench testing and is in the final stage of assembly. In the coming weeks, it will also be sent to the customer, which will complete delivery of the full set for the "Leningrad."
Project 22220 is a series of universal nuclear-powered icebreakers intended to support navigation in Arctic waters.
