The UAZ ‘Patriot’ will finally receive the units that almost all SUV owners have dreamt of. The talk is about a diesel engine and automatic transmission (torque converter). This upgrade was confirmed by the General Director of UAZ, Alexey Spirin.
He disclosed to the Izvestia edition that the ‘Patriot’ with a diesel engine will appear in 2024 – this engine will be combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine production was recently localized in the 'Sollers Elabuga' plant, it has a 2.0-litre capacity and delivers 130 hp. Now, the UAZ ‘Patriot’ is equipped with an unalternative 2.7-liter petrol engine that produces 150 hp, which works in conjunction with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Naturally, the current units do not contribute to fuel economy.
Regarding the automatic transmission, the UAZ ‘Patriot’, according to Alexey Spirin, will get it in 2025. Previously, the SUV was equipped with a 'Punch Powerglide 6L50' automatic gearbox, but due to sanctions, the supply of these gearboxes to UAZ has ceased. The new automatic gearbox will likely be from China.
