UAZ "Patriot" to Get a 2.0-Liter Diesel Engine and Automatic Transmission

The diesel engine under the hood of the "Patriot" will appear in 2024, the SUV will receive an "automatic" a year later

UAZ "Patriot" will finally receive the units that almost all SUV owners dream of. We are talking about a diesel engine and an automatic transmission (torque converter). The fact that the "Patriot" will receive these units was announced by the General Director of UAZ, Alexey Spirin.

He told the Izvestia newspaper that the "Patriot" with a diesel engine will appear in 2024 – this engine will be combined with a 6-speed manual transmission. The engine production was recently localized at the Sollers Alabuga plant: with a volume of 2.0 liters, it produces 130 hp. Recall that the UAZ "Patriot" is now offered with an alternative 2.7-liter ZMZ gasoline engine with a capacity of 150 hp, which works in tandem with a 5-speed manual transmission. Naturally, the current units do not contribute to fuel economy at all.

As for the automatic transmission, the UAZ "Patriot", according to Alexey Spirin, will receive it in 2025. Previously, the SUV was equipped with an automatic Punch Powerglide 6L50, but due to sanctions, the supply of these gearboxes to UAZ was stopped. The new "automatic", apparently, will be from China.
