Military Expert Weichert: Thanks to the coaxial rotor system, the "Alligator" is highly maneuverable

The Ka-52 "Alligator" is one of the most recognizable Russian attack helicopters, designed to engage armored and unarmored vehicles, conduct reconnaissance, and coordinate combat operations from the air. This is according to military expert Brandon J. Weichert in an article for The National Interest.

Unlike its predecessor, the Ka-50, the Ka-52 "Alligator" is a two-seater, which reduces the load on the pilot and increases the efficiency of task execution.

Thanks to the coaxial rotor system, the Ka-52 features improved maneuverability. The pilot can perform the famous "loop-the-loop", "dive", "snake", "hill", transitions from slip to slip, and flat turns.

The helicopter has dangerous shortcomings: it is vulnerable to Stinger MANPADS and drones. However, Ka-52 pilots have adapted by changing tactics. They have switched to flying at low altitudes, rising only to launch missiles.

Currently, the Ka-52 uses 30-mm automatic cannons and Igla anti-aircraft missiles against enemy UAVs.

The Ka-52 is a real contender for the title of one of the best attack helicopters in the world. It is ready for modern combat operations.
