A light An-2 aircraft crashed on the morning of August 12 in Samara Oblast while working over agricultural fields. The aviation incident occurred near the village of Novaya Zhizn, Koshkinsky District. The pilot survived but sustained injuries and was hospitalized.

The report of the aircraft crash was received by the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for Samara Oblast around 05:30. Initially, rescuers only reported the crash of a light transport aircraft and one injured person.

Later, the Central Interregional Investigative Directorate for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia clarified the type of aircraft. The crashed aircraft was an An-2, which was performing field irrigation work. According to preliminary investigation data, the aircraft crashed directly during an agricultural flight.

The pilot sustained injuries. He was first taken to a district hospital, after which evacuation to a regional medical facility was organized in Samara Oblast. There were no fatalities as a result of the incident.

Investigators and forensic experts are working at the crash site. They are establishing the circumstances and causes of the accident. The investigative authorities are conducting a check under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, related to violation of traffic rules and operation of air transport.

Compliance with safety requirements during the flight is being separately checked. The final causes of the An-2 crash have not yet been named.

An-2 is a Soviet multi-purpose aircraft developed in the late 1940s. The machine became widespread in agricultural aviation due to its ability to operate from unprepared sites and perform various types of special flights, including agricultural land treatment.
