Rostelecom subscribers now have access to the fifth-generation (5G) network in seven cities — Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Volgograd, Chelyabinsk, Krasnoyarsk, and Perm. This was announced by the telecom company's press service.

Alexey Demyanenko, Director of Products and Tariffs for the Mass Segment at Rostelecom, called the emergence of 5G networks a “long-awaited event” for market participants and users.
We are proud to offer our customers fifth-generation connectivity, qualitatively new speeds, and a superior customer experience.
Rostelecom will continue to make the latest technologies accessible to subscribers across the country, the top manager promised.
The press service clarified that over the past 10 years, the company has introduced VoWiFi (calls over Wi-Fi), VoLTE (calls over LTE), eSIM (digital SIM card), and other services. Since 2025, the list of services to ensure subscriber safety has been expanded.
The 5G network was officially launched in Russia on September 11, 2026. This led to an increase in sales of smartphones supporting next-generation networks in million-plus cities, according to the T2 press service.
In September, compared to August, sales of 5G-enabled smartphones in the launched cities increased by 70%.
The most popular smartphones were Xiaomi, Tecno, Honor, and Realme. However, buyer interest in 5G-enabled smartphones was recorded even before the network launch. The press service explained this trend by stating that the market is “sufficiently warmed up”.
