The main problem of the aircraft-carrying cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov" of Project 1143.5 is not directly in the GTZA TV-12-4 engines. The main difficulties arose with other complex and demanding systems that ensure the operation of the power plant, explained "Pervy Tekhnichesky" Captain 1st Rank (retired) Vasily Dandykin.
According to him, every effort must be made to return the aircraft carrier to service.
The problems there are mainly not with the engines, but with the steam-power units, which, in general, are quite capricious.
Dandykin recalled that a significant part of the Soviet shipbuilding infrastructure related to aircraft carriers was located in Nikolaev. After the collapse of the USSR, Russia lost some of its production capabilities.
Back in July 2025, the "Admiral Kuznetsov" was planned to be mothballed. According to various estimates, about 100 billion rubles have already been spent on the ship. According to the latest information, the aircraft carrier is in Murmansk without movement.
