Russian space-borne electronics are undergoing tests for resistance to the damaging factors of a nuclear explosion. This was stated by the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Gennady Krasnikov, explaining that the protection of microchips requires different technical solutions depending on the type of radiation exposure.

These checks have been carried out since the times of the USSR. According to the head of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the domestic element base is being developed taking into account the extreme conditions in which spacecraft may find themselves. Krasnikov claims that Russian electronic components are prepared for such loads.
There is no universal protection against all types of radiation. Different solutions are needed to counteract gamma and neutron radiation, and different ones for heavy charged particles. The stability of electronics is ensured, among other things, by circuit duplication, which helps to increase the reliability of systems under radiation exposure.
However, the statement about resistance to the damaging factors of a nuclear explosion does not mean that any spacecraft can survive a nuclear explosion in close proximity. The result depends on the power and distance to the explosion, the specific type of impact, the design of the spacecraft, and the characteristics of the installed electronics.
