Rostec has completed a comprehensive set of certification tests for the PD-8 engine; the power units have accumulated over 6500 hours of operation. The engines confirmed the correctness of design solutions during the tests, which allows for obtaining a type certificate.
The state corporation emphasized that the PD-8 demonstrated high reliability, safety, and readiness for operation in the most challenging conditions.
This is the result of extensive work by thousands of specialists in our engine-building industry. We expect the issuance of a type certificate in the very near future, which will bring closer the certification of the import-substituted SJ-100, which is already awaited by Russian airlines.
Recall that earlier, for PD-8 tests, more than three tons of 16 mm diameter ice pellets were produced by hail. During the check, the engine received ice charges weighing 220 kg at a speed of 240 m/sec and continued to operate.
At the end of March, materials from Rosaviatsiya, presented at the final board meeting of the Russian Ministry of Transport, mentioned plans to certify the power unit in April. Information also appeared in the media that the PD-8 had a thrust problem.
