United Engine Corporation (ODK) has significantly reduced the specific fuel consumption of the PD-8 thanks to new technical solutions. The power plant incorporated 25 critical technologies, 17 of which are completely new.
ODK explained that the PD-8 is the first to use a supersonic high-pressure turbine stage with a pressure reduction ratio of four.
This means that the gas pressure decreases fourfold compared to the initial state at the turbine inlet.
For efficient operation, designers engineered a turbine with minimal radial clearances above the impeller, ensuring optimal distance between rotor blades and stator elements.
This significantly affects specific fuel consumption. Such a solution belongs to complex technical systems used in new-generation gas turbine engines.
In December 2025, a source from "Business Online" in the aviation industry stated that the PD-8 did not provide the necessary thrust for flights with a full cabin. Whether this problem has been resolved is unknown.
