The new Russian PD-8 engine is fundamentally different from the Franco-Russian SaM146. This was stated by Ilya Konyukhov, General Director of ODK-Saturn.
How does the new PD-8 engine differ from the old SaM146? The answer is very simple – primarily in materials and technologies.
Gleb Turichin, Rector of the Saint Petersburg State Marine Technical University, clarified that modern machines are capable of printing large-sized products up to 3.5 m, and for minimization, down to 800 microns. At the same time, the yield of usable products is close to 100%, which directly reduces the cost.
Recall that SaM146 was installed on the first versions of the Superjet 100. Import-substituted versions of the liner will go to airlines with domestic PD-8s.
Aviation expert Andrey Velichko noted that the PD-8 broke the aviation industry's dependence on SaM146 and became a foundation for heavier power plants – PD-26 and PD-35.
