During exercises in Cuba, the military demonstrated an unusual modernization of the Mosin-Nagant rifle. The classic three-line rifle was equipped with an SVD flash hider and a PSO-1 optical sight, which is typically used on Soviet sniper rifles.
Photos of the weapon appeared on social media and attracted the attention of small arms specialists. Judging by the published footage, Cuban gunsmiths adapted the old rifle for precision shooting tasks while preserving its basic design.
Such modernization seems logical for an army with limited capabilities to purchase modern small arms. Even outdated models, after modification, can be effectively used in local conflicts and guerrilla warfare.
Outwardly, the updated rifle combines elements of Soviet weapons from different generations. The installation of an SVD flash hider should reduce the visibility of the shot, and the PSO-1 scope enhances the shooter's capabilities when operating at long distances.
