Since the beginning of 2026, military specialists have tested more than 20 new communication devices and systems. They also studied new operating modes for equipment already in use by the troops. This was announced by Major General Dmitry Kvitka, Chief of Communications — Deputy Chief of Staff of the Moscow Military District for Communications.

A special group was created within the command to test promising developments. It not only evaluates new communication tools but also works on improving existing technologies.

One of the directions is increasing the distance at which ground robotic systems (NRTK) can be controlled. Such machines receive commands remotely, so the range and reliability of the control channel are of great importance to them.

Another task is to protect video streams from interception and interference. In addition, specialists are improving radio communication devices operating in different ranges.

According to Kvitka, many proposals from military signalmen of the "Zapad" troop group have already been implemented in specific models of equipment and communication devices. The general did not specify which systems were tested in 2026 and what results the checks showed.

October 20th is celebrated as Military Signalman's Day in Russia. The holiday was established by presidential decree on May 21, 2006. Its historical date is associated with October 20, 1919, when a communications department was created as part of the Field Staff of the Soviet Republic.
