IAZ expands capacity for serial production of the import-substituted MS-21

A new bay for wing final assembly and optimization of shops 205-255 will accelerate the production cycle of the narrow-body airliner

The aggregate assembly production (ASP) of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant (IAZ) has reached a stable serial rhythm in assembling the MS-21 narrow-body airliner. Last week, another serial aircraft underwent comprehensive live-power testing, a key stage before transfer to the final assembly shop. In parallel, to accelerate the assembly cycle, a project is being considered to equip an additional bay in the engineering building for final assembly of the wing consoles.

Production continues to improve in order to increase the pace of serial MS-21 output in the future.

All five shops of ASP's civil aviation division are loaded at 100%. In shops No. 205, 245, and 255, specialists form fuselage sections and install onboard systems. Shop No. 246 is responsible for joining the fuselage halves into a single load-bearing frame, while the final stage of aggregate assembly, the installation of the wing console sections onto the airframe, is carried out in shop No. 249. After that, the structure is transferred for final assembly to integrate the engines, landing gear, and interior. In the future, productivity is planned to increase through infrastructure expansion.

Earlier, the plant completed the outfitting of its machining and assembly shops with advanced domestic milling machining centers for manufacturing complex components from titanium alloys.
