A new rack-and-pinion undercarriage lift model A1874M1 has been put into operation in the current repair shop of the Agryz-Yuzhny service locomotive depot, which is part of the Western branch of LocoTech-Service. The equipment was updated as part of the Russian Railways investment program and is aimed at improving the efficiency and safety of repair work.
The new device is designed for dismantling and installing wheel-motor and wheel-gear units in electric and diesel locomotives equipped with both axle-support and frame-support traction motor suspensions. Thanks to the design features of the lift, operations to replace units can now be performed without completely lifting the locomotive, which significantly reduces the downtime of rolling stock at the repair position.
According to the head of the production and technical department, Ilya Rusalev, the A1874M1 model is more reliable compared to previous generations of similar equipment. He noted that the rack-and-pinion mechanism ensures smooth movement, which is critical for precise centering of heavy units and eliminating distortions during installation. In addition, the equipment meets modern industrial safety requirements and significantly reduces the physical load on repair personnel, speeding up the installation and dismantling process.
