Rosaviatsiya granted PAO "Yakovlev" approval of a major change to the MS-21-310 type certificate, providing for the import substitution of composite materials in the load-bearing elements of the fin and stabilizer caissons. This was announced by the United Aircraft Corporation (OAK).
The approval work was completed in December 2025. Rosaviatsiya head Dmitry Yadrov stated that the domestic materials science school had once again demonstrated its readiness to develop and supply the aircraft industry with its own world-class composites.
Their reliability for use in the MS-21 structure is confirmed by calculations, modeling, and full-scale tests involving the country's leading scientific and certification centers.
Serial production of the new fin and stabilizer caissons made of composite materials is being carried out by the company "KAPO-Kompozit". OAK CEO Vadim Badekha emphasized that the MS-21 is now equipped with domestic materials that have confirmed their reliability.
A broad cooperation of scientific centers and manufacturing enterprises was involved in the work. I would like to thank all colleagues who contributed to the creation of an entire sub-sector of composite aircraft manufacturing.
OAK added that PAO "Yakovlev" is working on certifying the aircraft with new domestic equipment.
Oleg Panteleev, executive director of the agency "AviaPort" and an aviation expert, explained to "Pervomu Tekhnicheskomu" that when creating components for the MS-21, the Russian industry had to leap 30 years forward. He refuted the opinion that the aircraft's excess weight is connected only with composite materials after import substitution.
